Hand Rankings

1. Royal Flush
Royal Flush is a straight from 10 to Ace with all cards being the same suit
2. Straight Flush
A Straight Flush is any straight with all cards being the same suit. Ace can be high or low
3. Four Of A Kind
Also known as 'Quads', any four cards of the same rank, as our example shows four Queens. If another player has 'Quads' then the higher ranked hand wins.
4. Full House
Sometimes called a 'Full Boat', a full house contains two cards of one rank and three cards of another rank. Our example shows two 10's and three Queens or 'queens full of 10's' as it is often refered. If another player has a Full House then the hand with the highest ranked set of three wins
5. Flush
A flush consists of 5 none sequential cards of the same suit. Our example would be described as an 'Ace high flush'. When competing with another Flush the highest ranked card determines the winner. If both have the same 'high card' it then moves to the second highest and so on.
6. Straight
The Straight is 5 sequentially ranked cards with a mixture of different suits. One of the most commonly tied hands in poker, the winning hand would be the one with the highest ranked card. If the same then the pot is split. Our hand shows a 'queen high straight'.
7. Three Of A Kind
Also known as 'Triplets' or 'Trips', is made up of three cards of the same rank, the higher ranked your 'trips', the better the hand.
8. Two Pair
As you would expect this hand contains two pairs of differently ranked cards, as seen on the left with a pair of 7's and a pair of Q's. When up against another 'two pair' its the hand containing the highest ranked pair that wins, if both hands have the same high ranked pair then the next pair are compared. If both hands have the same two pair then the fifth card or 'kicker' determines the winner.
9. One Pair
Two cards of the same rank with three other unmatched cards. The highest ranked pair wins if your hand is matched. If both the same pair then the other three cards or 'kickers' determine the winner.
10. High Card
Five cards of different rank, not in sequence and not all of the same suit. When two hands are compared the one with the highest ranked card wins.
